Jimmy Wabick started his journey in trucking while growing up on the family farm in Manitoba. He drove farm trucks and large machinery and grew to understand the equipment inside and out. When he turned 18, Jimmy left the farm and took a summer job working on a paving crew in Saskatchewan hauling asphalt. He returned again the following summer and then joined the transportation industry and never looked back.
Jimmy moved to High River Alberta and hauled groceries, tools and construction material in both long-haul and local trucking. Then in 1985, he began in the utility line construction industry, doing milk runs and shuttles and then started hauling power poles and running the grapple on a picker truck. Jimmy is not only a seasoned Class 1 Driver, but also a Journeyman Boom Truck Operator! He has been a part of numerous new and replacement powerline projects in Alberta and we can’t even begin to imagine the number of times he’s turned that ignition key.
Jimmy has seen many things on the highways and with his experience he always cautions, ”keep your eyes open, your head up and anticipate what other drivers on the road will do.”
Encore Trucking & Transport Ltd. was lucky to have him join the team in 2012. Since that day, he has not had a single incident with product or truck damages. Nothing. New Encore drivers are sent down to High River to ride along with Jimmy and learn about safe operation of a grapple unit and proper load securement. He’s become the mentor on this type of work.
Mechanics admire him for his knowledge on truck repairs and maintenance, Safety admires him because of his excellent attitude towards safety, Dispatch admires him because of his flexibility and get-it-done attitude, the customers admire him because of his proven reliability and service and managers admire him because he is a go-to guy and if things are chaotic, he brings stability and resolve.
His professional accomplishments include thousands of trailers loaded and delivered safety within his 55 years of commercial driving experience. He has done so with a grin on his face and a contagious chuckle which stays with you long after.
